Why Ardiden Velos

Top Quality bikes - Best location for your Tourmalet bike rentals and 5 star service

Top Quality Bike Rentals

All of our rental bikes are either new, or late model BIANCHI or CUBE bikes. To make sure that you get up the local cols, our BIANCHI carbon and aluminium road bikes are geared for the mountains and have a compact 50/34 and either an 11×32 or 11×34 rear cassette. If you need a bit of assistance, our electric road / gravel bikes have even lower gearing, with a 40T Crank and 11×42 cassette. Our CUBE electric mountain bikes have a minimum 625w battery for exceptional range, up to 80 or 90 km in the high mountains.

Best Location for the Tourmalet

Our shop is situated right in the center of Luz-Saint-Sauveur, opposite the Tourist Office. We are not just in the best location if you want to climb the Col du Tourmalet, but you can ride straight from our shop to climb no less than 6 other Pyrenees cols that feature regularly in the Tour de France. The Col d’Aspin, Luz Ardiden, Hautacam, the Col du Soulor, Col de Spandelles and the Col d’Aubisque. There are no long valley rides to get to the big mountains, (you’re already there) and these are some of the most spectacular and challenging bike rides you’ll find anywhere in Europe. For more details of these and some of our other favorite bike routes, including the magnificent Col des Tentes and the Cirque de Troumouse, check out our Road Bike Routes.

Custom Clothing and Accessories

Our shop in Luz-Saint-Sauveur is open from the end of April through to the end of October, every day from early in the morning to late in the evening. We sell our own custom design “Pyrenees-Hi” custom cycling jerseys, shorts, T-shirts, socks and underwear. We stock all the usual spare parts and accessories you would expect to find in a bike shop, plus a big selection of energy bars, powders and gels to get you up those mountains.

Ardiden Velos Testimonials

What they're saying about us - Check out our latest independant reviews

Excellent road bike rental

Excellent bikes and super service. Matthew had our order for 10 bikes all ready to go on arrival.
They also provided great advice on the routes in the area.

Climber812811, Dublin, Ireland

4 day hire in October

I can highly recommend Matthew's operation in Luz, easy to contact beforehand by email and very easy to deal with in person. The Scott bikes are a real pleasure, particularly lightweight for the mountains, and Luz is a great place to start from. I have used Ardiden Velos on a couple of occasions now and will do so again.

Tourmalet Cycling

Ideal location for cycling up to Col du Tourmalet. My Scott Addict 10 was in great condition, the downhill rides were awesome! The best I've ever enjoyed! Great fun riding up and down Luz Ardiden ski station as well. Thanks Niki for showing me the routes. Beautiful scenery everywhere especially at Lake Gloriettes and Cirque De Gavarnie.

Perfect Bikes for the Pyrenees

We couldn't have been happier with the bikes were rented. I take a bike on the small side, and they gave me an excellent bike that was exactly the same size as requested. It's also worth a visit to their shop where they carry an excellent selection of jerseys and goods. Several in our group stocked up on nice memorabilia there.

Professional, friendly service, high quality equipment

This is the second time we have rented bikes from Ardiden Velos. As with our first occasion it is difficult to fault the professional and comprehensive, as well as the very friendly, service provided by Ardiden Velos. The bikes are of the of the highest quality and the idiosyncrasies of some members of our group were happily accommodated.

Magic

Just rent from these people. Quality high-end equipment. Really cool clothing and accessories in shop. British couple who were kind and very attentive. Magical experience all around.

Tour de France Weekend

Service was second to none, the road bikes we hired were top quality and condition. Considering this was possibly the busiest weekend they could ever have with the Tourmalet stage of the TDF on their doorstep, the staff could not have had more time for us in setting up the bikes and advising on routes. I will be back!

What a Gem!

What a great place to rent bikes. The shop is well located in Luz St. Sauveur, close to the bottom of Col de Tourmalet. The bikes we rented were lovely high end Scotts, offered in a generous range of sizes, Enough gears (11-32) to get you up the steeps! We can’t say enough good things about this place. We will go back soon!

Bikes and service were first class

Group of 9 Irish guys, we had pre-booked bikes from Ardiden Velos to do 3 of the classic climbs in the area over 3 days. Super service including individual bike set-ups and great advice from Matthew and the crew on tweaking our intended routes to get best experience each day.

When to Ride

The best time of the year to visit Luz-Saint-Sauveur

Our cycling season:

At the beginning of the season during April and May, the weather can be changeable and it may be cold at the higher altitudes, so be prepared. The lower cols are rideable, but the Tourmalet and Aubisque are not normally open before about the middle of May.

July and August are normally hot and dry but there are always a few rainy days, while September is maybe the best month for road biking. The weather is a bit cooler than during the summer, so perfect for climbing.

The season lasts through to the end of October. For current weather conditions, see meteoblue.com
